Byte Size Factory is one person. I read every email that comes in, and replies usually take a few days — sometimes longer if I’m in the middle of a release. I would rather tell you that honestly than promise you a same-day answer and miss it.

What to include in your email

None of this is mandatory. It just means I can usually fix things in one reply instead of four.

  • Which productStarclaim, Bodkin, NeedToKnow, GameHydra. They are separate things, they do not share accounts, and some of them do not have accounts at all.
  • Your account email or username, if the product has accounts. Without it I usually cannot find you. For something you bought rather than signed up for, the email on the receipt does the same job.
  • What happened — what you did, and what the product did back.
  • What you expected instead. This one sounds obvious and is the single most useful line in most bug reports.

Screenshots and rough timestamps help more than a careful description. Send them if you have them.

By product

Each product has a permanent anchor on this page, linked from inside the product itself.

Starclaim

Live
#starclaim

Account trouble, lost progress, purchase questions, and bug reports for Starclaim all come to the same inbox.

  • If it is a purchase problem, include the email on the receipt from the payment processor — it is not always the same as your account email.
  • If progress looks wrong, tell me roughly when you last played and what you expected to see.

Bodkin

Live
#bodkin

Bug reports, match and connection problems, and player conduct reports for Bodkin come to the same inbox.

  • For connection or match problems, roughly when it happened and what you were doing helps more than anything else.

NeedToKnow

In development
#needtoknow

NeedToKnow is an Android app and is not on the Play Store yet. App problems, account questions, and filters that stay too quiet or get too loud all come to the same inbox.

  • Silence is the normal state. The scorer is told to hold back when it is unsure, so most scans surface nothing at all — a run of quiet days is the app working, not the app broken.
  • To check it is really running, open the Account tab and look at Last scan. A recent time means you were scanned and nothing cleared your bar — and when the Signal tab is empty it shows a Screened count, which is how many stories the last scan read before holding all of them back.
  • Scan frequency is on the same screen, and it is slower than most people expect. A free account is scanned at most once a day — that is the ceiling, not the schedule, and you can pick slower — so a story published this morning may not be looked at until tomorrow. Every new account is scanned at least hourly for its first 24 hours, so day one feels livelier than the weeks after it — that settling down is expected.
  • If nothing arrives at all, check that the filter is switched on in the Filters tab, and that the Notifications row on the Account tab does not read Off. That row toggles on a single tap, so it is easy to turn off by accident, and Android's own permission will still look fine while it is.
  • It is not an emergency alert service and should not be used as one. After the first day a free account is scanned as often as once a day, and slower if you choose it, the scorer errs towards silence, and push delivery is never guaranteed — keep your official alerts on.
  • When you write in, tell me which filter, roughly when, and what you expected it to catch. A specific story you think should have got through is far more useful than “it is too quiet”.

GameHydra

In development
#gamehydra

GameHydra is a Windows app and is not on sale yet. Games that will not launch after being stored, drives it refuses to use, files left behind on disk, and licence or purchase questions once the store opens all come to the same inbox.

  • Before you uninstall it, open GameHydra and press Bring everything home. It walks every stored game back to your Steam drive and empties the tank. Removing GameHydra without doing that leaves your games working — the junctions and the real folders are both still on disk — but those folders on your other drives are now load-bearing, and deleting them later is what breaks a game.
  • If a stored game vanishes from Steam, or Steam offers to reinstall something you know you have, check that the drive holding it is plugged in and mounted. A junction pointing at a drive that is not there looks like an empty folder to everything, Steam included. Reconnect the drive rather than reinstalling the game.
  • A game that will not launch after being stored is the report I most want. Tell me the game, which drive it ended up on, and whether it uses anti-cheat — that is usually enough for me to reproduce it. Bring that one game home in the meantime; you never have to undo everything to keep playing.
  • It is safe to leave running while you play. No file another program has open is ever touched, a game is skipped while a process is running from its folder, and the compactor that repacks your drives stands down while a game is running, while Steam is downloading or validating, while you are using GameHydra itself, and while a laptop is on battery.
  • A game bigger than the free space on every one of your other drives stays on your Steam drive. That is a rule rather than a bug: games are moved whole and never split, so one that fits nowhere stays where the room is.
